Never start with the bus!

Oh, my goodness! I've been meaning to see this movie, Big Man Japan for the longest time, but there was always something getting in the way. After knowing about it for almost two years, I finally found it on Netflix live stream through the Wii.

It's a mockumentary (or at least that's what they are saying) about a man who is the last of generations of people who can be "zapped" to become giant so they can protect Japan from monsters.

Watch the trailer:

Big expectations from an awesome trailer like that is what made it all fall flat for me. There was very little substance to the "interviews" that went on between action sequences. Something tells me I'm blocked by some cultural inability to fathom the humor. There were tons of snickers throughout, but mostly it was a lot of snooze, and short bursts of, "What the what, now?"

Definitely worth checking out despite my poor rating. If you find yourself getting bored like I did, just fast forward to the action. Instead of eye candy it's a lot like some candy product you might have to dare yourself to try - Red bean curd suckers or candied seaweed.

Even if you are able to get through it all, and make it to the final showdown, you'll find yourself getting slugged from behind when they hit you with some kind of reality twist that will have you writhing in confusion on the floor. I must have asked, "What?!!!" five times in the last ten minutes.

I'm wondering if there will ever be a sequel called Big Girl Japan or  Big Girl World since it was mentioned early on that Big Man had a daughter around eight years old. We need big girl heroes to protect our world from the bad giant monsters!
